What this calculator tells you

Etsy charges several small fees across an order. The effective rate is usually higher than the headline transaction percentage once payment processing and fixed charges are included.

Transaction fee = (item price + shipping charged) x transaction rate. Payment processing = (item price + shipping charged) x payment rate + fixed fee. Total fees also include listing and offsite ad fees. Net proceeds = customer payment - total fees.

When to use it

Use it when pricing a new listing, deciding whether to offer free shipping, or checking the real return from a sale driven by offsite ads.

Use conservative inputs

Start with your landed cost, real fee rates, and a pessimistic advertising cost. The result is more useful when the assumptions are honest.

Watch the common mistake

Applying the transaction rate only to the item price ignores shipping charged, which can also be part of the fee basis. Confirm the current Etsy fee rules for the sale.

Frequently asked questions

Should shipping charged to the buyer be included?

Include it when the marketplace includes shipping in its fee basis. Enter both the shipping collected and the actual postage cost so the result is not misleading.

How do I model offsite ads?

Enter the applicable offsite ad percentage on the customer payment. Use zero when the sale is not attributed to an offsite ad.

Does this calculator include material cost?

No. Net proceeds only subtract Etsy fees. Subtract material and fulfillment cost separately to estimate profit.
